ANTIQUE WEAVE

A centuries old craft, the fundamentals of weaving antique rugs have not changed. Many of the earliest known techniques and materials are still in use in major rug producing regions of the world such as Turkey, China, Persia, India, Morocco, and Europe. Antique rugs can vary in color, size, design, and material and are available in wide array of each.

While a precious, finely woven rug may be classified as oriental or Persian on the basis of its design, only rugs that are at least 80 years old may earn the classification of antique. The younger ones, from 30 to 50 years old, are considered vintage.

Constructed using a wide variety of weaving techniques which textures and designs, the most commonly known are antique Persian rug or Oriental rugs.

Cleaning antique weave rugs depends upon the material used and type of pile and weave. Most antique rugs can be lightly vacuumed without using the beater brush. However, consulting a professional rug cleaner such as ServiceMaster Restore® is always good advice on the cleaning of antique and vintage weave rugs.
