CEO Steven C Gilmore remembers…
We grew from a one man operation to a “Company You Can Trust.” My father Robert Gilmore Senior started his business in 1972 specializing in residential carpet and upholstery cleaning. Gradually, my two brothers and I assisted my father in fire and water damage clean up after his business began to grow. It was through my father that we learned the proper ways to wash walls, clean different fabrics properly, and define which surfaces were washable and which materials required special handling.
In 1982, my brothers and I received the opportunity to purchase the business from our father. We decided to take a risk and make it on our own. Soon after we began, we decided to become disaster restoration specialists working from the bottom to the top. All on our own, we scheduled the appointments, cleaned the homes, and typed our bills.
As the business grew, we hired people to help with bookkeeping, marketing, production, etc. We invested in our employees’ training and promoted our production crews from technicians to assistant crew chiefs then finally to crew chiefs. Many of our crew chiefs are still with us today working just as hard and diligently as they did 20 years ago.
As the sole owner of ServiceMaster by Gilmore, I take pride in the longevity of my employees. Here at ServiceMaster by Gilmore, our average length of service is 16 years, but many have been with our company for more than 35 years.
We always put our employees and our customers first! We believe that everyone needs to support our communities where we live, as well as our country. We are active members of the ServiceMaster National Team helping other franchises to grow and develop. We are grateful to our customers who have made this 40th Anniversary possible and we look forward to providing the best service possible in the years to come.
