Carpet cleaner

Contact ServiceMaster by Rice for Professional Carpet Cleaning in Des Moines

Between carpet manufacturers, carpet cleaning professionals and home cleanliness enthusiasts, there are a lot of different opinions on how often you should get carpets cleaned in your home. Generally speaking, a good rule of thumb is two times a year, or more, especially if you have kids and pets running around. If you don’t get your carpets cleaned as often as you should, you could be shortening the lifespan of your carpet and flooring as well as holding bacteria and dirt from years ago. At ServiceMaster by Rice, we want to help answer your questions and help you get back to the cleanest carpets your home has ever had.

What Kind of Carpet Cleaning Method Do You Use?

There are two main schools of thought with carpet cleaning: steam cleaning and shampooing the carpet. We use hot water extraction (or steam cleaning) to get tough, deep stains out of the carpet without leaving behind a sticky residue—which can actually attract more dirt. Hot water and a gentle cleaning solution are injected into your carpets to loosen up the stains, dirt and bacteria and then high powered suction gets out the rest. By the time we are done, 95% of the moisture is already gone and we will set up fans to do the rest of the drying.

How Long Does Carpet Cleaning Take?

Depending on how large your rooms are, how much furniture you have to work around and how dirty your carpets are, each room can take around 20-30 minutes. If you have a large home or a lot of carpet that needs to be cleaned or if you need carpets pre-vacuumed, then the process may take a little longer. We promise to be in and out as quickly as possible so you can get your home back, but we also promise to do a professional, thorough cleaning.

How Long Does it Take for Carpets to Dry After a Professional Cleaning?

Depending on the humidity, air flow and time of year, your carpets can take anywhere between 8 and 24 hours to dry completely. While you can walk on the carpets minimally during the drying process, it is best to avoid the room completely for best results. Fans and using your air conditioning or heating units can accelerate your drying process. If you do need to walk on your carpets, just be sure to wear clean, rubber shoes so you don’t track in new dirt before it’s completely dry.

Do I Need to Do Anything Before You Come to Clean My Carpets?

If you want to vacuum your carpets before we come visit, we won’t object. This is a good idea if you are in a time crunch or if the room is particularly dirty or dusty. Vacuuming or pre-cleaning is not necessary, however, and our team can vacuum the rooms before we clean your carpets.

How Often Do You (or the Manufacturers) Recommend Carpet/Furniture Cleaning?

For furniture cleaning, most manufacturers recommend getting the upholstery cleaned about every 1-2 years. If you use the furniture a lot or if you have pets and kids running around your house, it could be a good idea to get your furniture steam cleaned more often. Professional steam cleaning can remove dirt, allergens and mold that can irritate family members with asthma and it can also help protect your investment long term.

Getting your carpets cleaned is another story. Since foot traffic can carry in any number of things from outside, your carpets trap and hold dirt and bacteria that no amount of vacuuming can take care of. If you don’t have a lot of foot traffic or you don’t have pets or kids living in your home, deep cleaning your carpets once a year should be enough to keep them in good shape. If you do have a lot of activity and people running through your home, or if you have family members with asthma, getting your carpets cleaned every six to nine months is recommended. Not only will ServiceMaster’s hot water extraction process get the dirt, mites and bacteria out of your carpet, we will also help you protect your investment so your home can endure more wear and tear in years to come.
