WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A PACK-OUT AFTER A DISASTER

We never know when a disaster may strike, and it can greatly disrupt our lives. If you’ve been affected by damage due to fire, smoke, water, or mold, the last thing you want to worry about after this kind of devastation is the safety and protection of your belongings during the restoration process. ServiceMaster of Baltimore wants you to know that your possessions can be stored and protected during the disaster cleanup.

What Is A Pack-Out?

A pack-out occurs after a property has been damaged. Whether it’s a home or an office, personal property will need to be removed after a disaster so that the restoration process can begin. During this process, items are safely removed and stored, either on or off-site. The items are returned once the repairs or construction are completed.

The Pack-Out Process

When a disaster occurs, we want to ensure that we can salvage as much of our possessions as possible. Here is what you can expect from the process after a disaster.

Inspection

The very first step is for your items to be inspected. This allows you and the professionals to decide which pack-out service will best fit your needs based on the level of restoration, as well as whether or not items can be restored.

Documentation

Once your items have been inspected, they will be placed into two categories: salvageable and unsalvageable. The items that are damaged beyond repair will need to be discarded, while the rest of your belongings will be documented and kept on record. This ensures that when your restoration is completed, all of your belongings are returned.

Transportation and Cleaning

Depending on the level of damage, not all items will require packing-out. However, the ones that do will be safely transported from your home or office to a secure location. Your belongings will be handled with the utmost care by following appropriate packing protocols using wrapping, boxes, and pads. The items that don’t require a pack-out will be secured and protected while the property undergoes restoration.

Once the items are transported, the cleaning process can begin to bring them back to their pre-loss condition using special equipment.

Returning Your Items

After the repairs to your home or office are completed and your belongings have been restored, they will be returned to you safely. The length of time prior to completion will vary, depending on the level and type of damage, and sometimes it can take longer than expected.
