Cold Weather Is Coming, Don't Fall Victim to Frozen Pipes!

Damaged pipe

Below zero temperatures are predicted over the next few days. These temperatures bring an increased chance of a common and costly problem – water pipe bursts. Keep in mind pipes of any material can burst, including PVC, plastic, iron, and lead. To prevent pipe damage during severe cold, homeowners and business owners should make sure their pipes are properly insulated. Or, if their pipes are un-insulated, let water flow through (even if only a drip or trickle). Doing so will ensure the water won’t have the opportunity to freeze and pipes should survive until temperatures warm above freezing. Pipes most at risk are those located inside an outside wall or in an unheated area such as a crawlspace. Kitchen and bathroom vanity cabinets can be left open to allow warm air to reach the pipes.

Should a burst pipe occur at your property, turn off the main water shutoff valve to minimize damage.
