Four Easy Fixes For Your Air Conditioner

The minute your air stops working is usually when you need it the most. Air conditioning systems won’t last forever but everyone wants their air conditioning to work efficiently during the months we need them. Luckily, there are some common issues that you can troubleshoot before giving up on your system. You may be able to fix your AC easily. If your air conditioning is not running well and insufficiently cooling your home, try these easy fixes.

Replace or Clean Filters

Checking and cleaning your filters periodically is critical and should be the first and easiest thing to check. Debris can get into filters and block airflow. You can clean the filter with warm water and a mild detergent if it is not very old. If the filter is old then you need to replace it. You should do this as part of regular maintenance. Depending on the number of people living in your house, and if there are pets, the filter should be changed every 30-60 days.

Get your Air Ducts Cleaned

Air ducts can get clogged with dust over a period of time. This can restrict their ability to ventilate fresh air, so it is important to get them cleaned. The seams around your ducts can also be leaking cool air. Check the seams of the air duct and if you see any spaces, you can seal them.

Clean/Replace Fuses

Broken or blown fuses of the AC unit can be responsible for causing your unit to stop working. You can buy replacement fuses or circuit breakers pretty easily in standard sizes. You can change the fuse yourself by simply unscrewing the old fuse or pulling it with a plier and inserting the new fuse.

Protect Your Unit

Create some shade outside for your unit, but make sure that no trees or plants are hanging near or over it. Remote leaves or other objects like ladders at least three feet away from the unit. Check the sides of the air conditioner unit as well and remove any nests that might be there.

Many times, air conditioning can be fixed by trying the above.
