Pumpkin Carving Safety

Pumpkin Carving Safety

Getting ready to carve your pumpkin this Halloween? There is nothing better than a good, spooky pumpkin on Halloween night. Unfortunately there are way too many people seen in the emergency room in the month of October due to pumpkin carving injuries. We want to help reduce this by giving you some helpful, safety tips to keep in mind as you are creating yours,

Consider following our precautions below to stay injury free

Use a Pumpkin Carving Kit

Pumpkin carving kits are specifically made to keep you safe while carving, The special tools are sharp enough to do the job but won’t injure you like a knife would. They are also smaller, allowing you to maneuver around your designs safer. These kits are not expensive and will be a well worth purchase.

Carve in a dry, well lit area

Place your pumpkin on a sturdy table. Make sure that there is plenty of light to see and that your area to work in is very dry. A wet surface is dangerous as your hand is more prone to slipping while carving.

Leave the carving to an adult

Children can still participate in the pumpkin carving by scooping out seeds and pulp or drawing the designs . Leave the actual carving part to an adult, better to be safe than sorry. If your teenager wants to do it themselves and you chose to allow them, be sure to supervise closely.

Be prepared to treat an injury

Should an injury occur, know ahead of time what to do. Apply direct pressure to a wound, clean and than bandage. If bleeding does not stop after fifteen minutes or you have been cut deep, than you need to head to the hospital. We hope our tips help to keep you and your family safe this Halloween.
