IICRC CERTIFICATION STANDARDS

When you are working with a cleaning, inspecting, or restoration professional, you’ll want to ensure that they are properly certified. While there are several different types of certifications these professionals can get, today we’ll take a look at the one awarded by the IICRC. The IICRC stands for Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification, and is a nonprofit for professionals in the restoration and cleaning industry. At ServiceMaster Baltimore, we have several newly certified and re-certified water damage technicians! Here is some more information you should know about the IICRC.

Purpose & Values

The IICRC has a mission to create standards and uphold standards for professionals who work in cleaning, inspection, restoration, and installation. These standards are important for professionals because they set a bar for service and professionalism, which are two of the most important factors in this line of work. This organization has a set of five values that are central to its mission. These five values are respect, responsibility, integrity, excellence, and expertise.

IICRC Standards

In addition to a mission statement and values, the IICRC also has standards that are used to guide professionals’ work. These standards come in the form of industry-wide terminology that allows professionals in the fields mentioned previously to communicate with each other easily. The IICRC is part of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which is an organization that’s in charge of monitoring the development of standards.

Certified Technicians

Even after reading the above information about the IICRC, you may be wondering what sets IICRC certified technicians from their counterparts. When technicians receive an IICRC certification, they are highly competent in their field. These technicians learn new techniques they can apply in their jobs and build their skills overall. Classes take anywhere from one to five days to complete and can be attained in categories such as Building Moisture Thermography, Carpet Cleaning Technician, and Commercial Drying Specialist. When more technicians are IICRC certified, everybody wins. The organization they work for will have even more qualified workers, the technicians themselves will be expanding their professional horizons, and customers can be assured they have the best person for the job.
